Biography
Kunaal Jinabhai, popularly known as DJ Kuchi, is a Botswana based DJ and producer who plays and produces house and electro music. He has worked with DJ Fresh and DJ Benjamin, to name a few. He is also a director at Xplosion Entertainment, a music entity that is known for hosting some of the country’s biggest outdoor events.
Kuchi became a professional DJ in 2001. He is the resident DJ at Gaborone’s oldest and one of the most popular night spots Bull & Bush and continues to make regular appearances on local radio stations such as Yarona FM and RB2. He has performed at some of the cpuntry's most renowned music festivals namely Kalahari Summer Festival in 2003, 2004 and 2005. In an effort to further build Botswana’s music industry, he has also taken up the task as one of the organizers of the Spring & Summer Xplosion festival which is fast gaining popularity since its debut in 2011.
In 2012, he was rated in the Top 100 DJs in the region. The contemporary listing placed him at a creditable 84th place in southern Africa. This saw his popularity on the music scene growing and boosting his debut album in terms of contacts. A South African company conducted the survey through various media outlets in the neighboring country and fans voted for their favorite DJs in the region.
Kuchi has done a lot of work with top South African DJs. His song ‘The Beginning’ is one of the tracks on DJ Fresh and Euphonik's cutting-edge compilation. He has rubbed shoulders with the likes of DJ Fresh, Mr O, House Junkies and Soul Candi in South Africa. In 2008, he also did a remix for at track called ‘Blackwhole’.
He is also a producer and a man behind the production of Loraine's hit ‘Something About You’. He did a remix for her follow up track ‘Keep Me Inside’. The most notable tracks he has produced are include ‘If It Ain’t For Love’, ‘The Beginning’, ‘Keep Me Inside’, ‘Something About You’, ‘Spinin', ‘Give Me Your Love’ and many others.
