Future

Biography

Future was born Nayvadius Cash on November 20, 1983 in Atlanta, Georgia. His stage name came about after members of the musical collective The Dungeon Family called him "The Future." He was encouraged to sharpen his writing skills and pursue a career as a rapper by his cousin, producer Rico Wade, who's also a member of The Dungeon Family.

From 2010 to early 2011, Future released a series of mixtapes including "1000", "Dirty Sprite" and "True Story". The latter included the hit single "Tony Montana". During this time, Future also partnered with Gucci Mane on the "Free Bricks" collaborative album, wrote YC's single "Racks" and signed with a major label.

Future joined Epic Records in September 2011 just days before releasing his next mixtape, "Streetz Calling". It was initially planned to be released as his last mixtape before he dropped his debut album, but he returned with another mixtape called "Astronaut Status" in January 2012. His debut LP "Pluto" followed in April of the same year. Including remixes of "Tony Montana" featuring Drake and "Magic" featuring T.I., the album peaked at No. 2 on Billboard 200

Later in 2012, Future enjoyed high-profile credits for co-writing and making cameo on "Loveeeeeee Song" off Rihanna's "Unapologetic" album. In early 2013, he released the compilation mixtape "F.B.G.: The Movie" which features the artists signed to his Freebandz label.

Also in 2013, Future announced that his second album would be called "Future Hendrix" and was scheduled for release later that year. However, he decided to retitle the project to "Honest" and dropped it in early 2014 to critical acclaim. It landed at No. 2 on Billboard 200.

Future then spent the rest of the year rolling out three mixtapes as well as making headlines for his split from fiancee Ciara. He scored another major hit "F**k Up Some Commas" in late 2014 and then announced his third album "DS2" in early 2015. The album arrived in summer and debuted at No. 1 on Billboard 200.

Just a few months after that, rumors began swirling suggesting that he had a joint mixtape with Drake in the works. The rumors started after an OVO artist uploaded and later deleted what was thought to be the mixtape's cover art. After a week of speculation, Drake confirmed the mixtape and released it on the next day. Titled "What a Time to Be Alive", it enters Billboard 200 at No. 1 and became the second No. 1 effort in 2015 for both Drake and Future. Drake already topped the list earlier in the year with his other surprise effort "If You're Reading This It's Too Late".
