Botswana musician Hanceford “Han-C” Magapatona was born in 1994 in Botswana. Passionate about his craft, he caught the music bug from his grandfather who christened him after the legendary Zambian guitarist Hanceford Mutamba. At the age of 9 he was already in love with music.
The self-taught singer/songwriter burst onto the local Botswana music scene with his chart topping debut hit, Sedi Laaka (which he co-wrote with his uncle Frampton), which was a defining moment in showcasing his lyrical and vocal prowess.
Sedi Laaka held the top position on the charts for more than a month. His passion for writing in the local vernacular, using idioms and deep Setswana, talking to life’s everyday experiences has catapulted his career and gained him a fan base who relate to his every word.
His style of writing and artistic ability are what he believes he has acquired from his musical background and growing up with a musical family.
Han C has to be one of the most adored star in Botswana because there isn’t a celebrity he hasn’t rubbed shoulders with or shared the stage with.
His debut solo album, On my own, is a 13 track album that is an amalgamation of various music genres showcasing his versatility and agility. Recorded and written in Botswana, HAN-C has had the opportunity to network with an array of local Botswana talent, that have featured on some of his songs.
Han C has done so much already that it’s hard to imagine that there is even anything else for him to do, right? But this muso has his sights on a couple of things and he’s going to be a legend.
There is no doubt that this chart topping hit artist will influence a change in the music scene in Botswana, not to mention the international arena.
