EARLY LIFE

Remy Ma was born in a very broken family in Castle Hill Projects in the Bronx, New York USA. Both her mom and her dad abused drugs. Because of her family’s condition, she took care of her little brothers and sisters.

At a young age, she went through a lot of trauma and difficulties. To get away from her family’s condition, she started writing poetry.

Trying to get on with her life, she tried to retreat through poetry and rap. Her reputation quickly grew in the neighborhood, and most people started recognizing her. She was then noticed by the late MC Big Pun.

After a freestyle session, she got the chance to be mentored by him. She made her first appearance in the Big Pun’s album Yeeah Baby in the tracks- Ms. Martin and You Was Wrong.

CAREER

After the death of Big Pun, she was signed off by the rapper- Fat Joe and included her in his rap crew- Terror Squad. For their song “Lean Back,” she even got a Grammy Nomination.

She then released three singles in her debut album named- There’s Something about Remy: based on a true story. The songs- Whuteva, Conceited and Feels so Good became the club anthems that year. It sold 37,000 copies in its first week and received positive reviews by XXL Magazine,  The Rolling Stone, as well as the Vibe Magazine.

But the way the Universal promoted the album and refusal to give the singles right to her started a feud between them. Because of this, she quit the label and stopped working with Fat Joe.

After breaking the deal with Fat Joe, she then joined the cast of season 6 of VH1’s Tv show Love and Hip Hop: New York. With her appearance on the reality TV show, she became more famous.

Again in the year 2016, Fat Joe announced the release of a new album of his collaboration with Remy Ma.  After the album released, she then worked on her sophomore album called- Seven Winters and Six Summers and PunisHer.

MARRIAGE AND DIVORCE

Remy Ma is married to her husband, rapper Papoose. Because she had allegedly was in prison for involvement in a shooting and assault case, the couple decided to get married inside the bars. The couple married in the year 2008.

Together, they also have a son who has now grown up. After the release of Remy, the couple remains together.

RUMORS AND CONTROVERSY

REMY MA SENTENCED TO 8 YEARS IN JAIL

On the Saturday of July 2007, Remy Ma was arrested for attempted murder after shooting in a place outside of New York nightspot.

According to the reports, Remy and her close friend Makeda Barnes- Joseph got into an argument regarding money. In a fit of rage, Remy allegedly shot the victim twice in her midsection.

The feud started when Remy accused her friend of stealing $2000 from her as she was the last person who held her purse.

The two friends were having a good time inside the Pizza Bar that they just came out. The owner of the place told that they were like sisters. But after their argument heated up, Remy allegedly shot the victim two times before they fled the scene in her Cadillac Escalade.

However, the victim survived, and got sent to the New York Hospital for treatment. The victim filed a lawsuit against the rapper Remy for $80 Million for all the suffering and pain as well as for the treatment.

In the court, she pleaded not guilty to the assaults as well as the attempted murder. But eventually, with enough proofs, she was sentenced to 8 years in prison.

She served a six years term in the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women in New York and was released in 2013.
